About Went to the movies

Public Enemies was pretty good. Not great, it dragged in a couple of places, but good.

There were two big problems for me.
1. I don't actually know when the Elevated trains got going in Chicago, but I'm pretty sure the trains themselves didn't have florescent tube lights until the 60s or 70s. That's just one example of a modern piece of anachronism jumped out at me. There were a bunch of other ones, but that was the big one.

2. Digital cameras just aren't ready yet. They still don't like action, they don't like any kind of fast movement, they drop frames all over the place, it makes it look like it was done on a shitty video camera. I'm not talking about how they chose to shoot the movie, which is done in that neo-faux-documentary style which isn't like a documentary at all because any camera man who shifted and bounced around like that in a documentary would be told to go back to shooting the 10 o'clock news in Buttfuck Iowa for a few more years while he honed his skills. This is purely a technical problem with a piece of equipment that is not yet ready for prime time.

I normally wouldn't bother mentioning these things, but they were distracting enough to pull me out of the movie when they came up. The camera thing was really bad and kept hitting me in the face.

Besides those two minor points (and in the grand scheme of things, they are very minor) I thought the movie was really good... just not actually great. However, I'd watch it again and I'll probably get it on DVD, which I know isn't saying much but there it is. Nothing was really wrong with the movie. Historically things were pretty good as far as the Dillinger timeline went. I was thinking that not as many people died at Little Bohemia as they show in the movie, but I figured I was just mistaken. I was about 14 when my interest in Mid-West bank robbers of the 30s waned and it had been a long time since I refreshed my memory. So yeah, it was alright.
